Systems Administrator, IT Support
We are seeking a hands‑on IT Systems Administrator to support our high‑availability industrial ethanol production facility in South Bend, IN. This role is fully onsite and responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving IT systems that support both office users and plant‑floor operations.
The ideal candidate combines strong end‑user support skills with solid infrastructure knowledge and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This position requires a proactive, detail‑oriented professional who can work independently while partnering closely with plant operations and corporate IT. This role reports directly to the IT Manager.
Essential Functions of the Job- Provide onsite technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely manner
- Support user onboarding/offboarding, including account provisioning and equipment setup for onboarding and retrieval for offboarding
- Maintain accurate asset inventory and lifecycle management
- Provide IT support for plant‑floor systems and operator workstations
- Ensure minimal downtime for production‑critical systems
- Follow company change control and operational procedures for OT systems
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access control (Active Directory / Entra )
- Support MFA, password policies, and security group management
- Ensure timely and secure onboarding, role changes, and terminations
- Troubleshoot LAN/WAN connectivity, switches, wireless networks, and network devices
- Monitor network performance and elevate issues as needed
- Assist with maintaining firewalls, VPN connectivity, and site‑to‑site communications
- Support structured cabling and physical network infrastructure within the plant
- Maintain Windows servers and related infrastructure (file servers, print services, etc.)
- Monitor system to ensure patching, updates, and backups are completed
- Monitor system health and respond to alerts
- Support endpoint security tools and vulnerability remediation
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
- Work with external vendors and managed service providers as needed
- Escalate complex infrastructure issues and track resolution
- 3–5+ years of hands‑on IT support and systems administration experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills across desktops, networking, and systems
- Windows OS (client and server)
- Virtualized servers (e.g. Hyper‑V, VMWare)
- Active Directory / Entra
- Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching, Wi‑Fi)
- Experience in manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environments preferred
- Exposure to PLC / SCADA systems (e.g., Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell) is advantageous
- Familiarity with IT/OT boundary and plant network segmentation is beneficial
- Experience with firewall management and VPN technologies
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, or Microsoft certifications highly valued
This role operates in both an office and manufacturing plant environment. When present in the plant, the employee must be able to wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include flame‑resistant (FR) clothing, safety glasses, hardhat, safety‑toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves.
The position involves primarily office‑based work, including prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, as well as regular movement throughout the facility. This may include standing, walking on the production floor, and transitioning between sitting, standing, and walking as needed during the workday.
