South Bend Orthopaedics (SBO) provides specialized care for all musculoskeletal surgery and orthopedic rehabilitation patients, as well as those suffering from work-related and sports injuries. Founded on the principle of providing excellence in orthopedics, SBO has been serving the needs of the northern half of Indiana and southern Michigan since 1947 and functions as the Orthopaedic Surgeons for The University of Notre Dame Athletics Department since 1949.

Services include joint replacement, sports medicine, upper and lower extremity surgery, pain management, diagnostic imaging, physical and occupational therapy. Responsibilities

Our Hand Therapists work closely with our hand surgeons here at South Bend Orthopaedics creating a team approach to orthopedic care. With this team approach, patients receive a well-rounded treatment plan specialized to them. By joining our team, you will gain knowledge, experience and opportunities to treat patients of all ages, experience levels and functionality.

Position Summary:

The Hand Therapist evaluates, plans for, and provides personalized therapeutic interventions in a team environment. They are responsible for the communication and coordination of hand-related treatment programs with other team members, including the patient/family.

Position Responsibilities/Standards:

General

* Attends department, clinic or company meetings as required.

* Demonstrates sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

* Consistently works in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.

* Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.

* Attends required annual in-service programs.

* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures.

* Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.

Specific Duties

* Comprehensively evaluates and develops functional, goal-driven treatment plans considering the patient's age, education level, family support, and cultural/psychosocial issues.

* Participates in program development, continuous improvement, and clinical education.

* Provides comprehensive and appropriate treatment, including periodic reassessment and goal modification, patient/family education, and ongoing discharge planning.

* Completes custom made orthotics for the upper extremity

* Completes wound and incision care

* Collaborates with other team members to ensure that the established treatment plan is carried out, that the patient is progressing towards discharge, and that periodic reassessment and treatment modification occurs when indicated by patient status.
