Quality Systems Manager Iii

McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full‑time Quality Systems Manager. This new hire will work in the South Bend plant, located at 3425 Lathrop Street, South Bend, IN, and will report to a QA Manager II.

Under the direct supervision of the Quality Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, and auditing of the Quality Systems for all departments of the plant. The position will manage sanitation and ensure that all GMP requirements are met. It will also manage the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program and ensure compliance with corporate, regulatory, and customer requirements.

• Maintenance and implementation of the Plant's Quality Systems Policies and Procedures, ensuring each department has appropriate systems in place to assure compliance with all expectations and providing assistance when necessary (20%).
• Documentation of the Plant's HACCP Program, ensuring that all verifications and validations are current; conducting/supervising internal audits, identifying root causes, recommending corrective actions, and working with Production and Engineering to verify line changes (20%).
• Facilitation of third‑party and regulatory audits for the plant, maintaining documentation of all quality programs to assist and support customer audits (20%).
• Providing feedback to all plant departments on sanitation and GMP issues (5%).
• Monitoring warehouse performance in the areas of sanitation/pest control, providing an ongoing audit of the program and delivering feedback (10%).
• Making strategic purchases to maintain quality systems and managing any implementation projects related to the purchase (5%).
• Responsible for Quality System programs, HACCP, pest control, CGMP, recall, food allergen, and sanitation complaint processes (10%).
• Coordinating plant activities and training as they relate to divisional and corporate quality system programs (10%).

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 4 years of manufacturing QA/QC experience, with at least 2 years of food manufacturing QA/QC experience; understanding of food processing requirements and government regulations; knowledge of liquid products is a plus.
• Leadership, interpersonal, communication, and influence skills; ability to work independently and have flexible work hours; good organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; frequent communication with upper management, regulatory inspectors, and customers.
• Experience with HACCP programs and documentation (critical).

Will be dealing with product recalls and customer complaints. Contact with customers regarding complaints in the field. Must have tact and diplomacy in handling complaints. Also deals with customer audits and auditors. Incumbent may impact the business unit positively or negatively through quality errors that are not caught. The negative impact could include significant costs and reputation damage in the approximate $100,000 range.
