Department IUSM-SOUTH BEND (IN-MEDS-IUINA) Department Information Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine - South Bend offers a well-established community medicine experience emphasizing small-group learning and 1-on-1 clinical training.

The Research Technician provides general laboratory support and technical assistance in research investigating the developmental genetics of vector insects that transmit human diseases.

• Conducts arthropod rearing
• Performs yeast and bacteria culturing
• Conducts molecular genetics techniques (i.e. gel electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR))
• Responsible for tissue preparation and immunohistochemistry
• Orders supplies (equipment, reagents, expendables)
• Cultures media and prepares solutions
• Trains other staff members

• Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies
• Organizes and implements data review and analysis
• Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories
• Conducts data quality assurance practices
• Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development
• Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory

• Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

• Required Bachelor's degree in science or a health-related discipline

• Preferred Some laboratory experience

• Required Proficient communication skills

• Demonstrated mastery of basic molecular genetic techniques

• Experience with molecular biology equipment (i.e. thermal cycler, real-time PCR machine, gel electrophoresis equipment, centrifuge); needle puller and micro injector; dissection and compound microscopes; desk top computer

• Training and certification can be provided on the job

South Bend, Indiana. This is an in-person position.
