Position Overview
We are currently looking to add a dynamic Environmental Scientist/Specialist to our passionate team of environmental professionals. This hybrid role will support both ecosystem/restoration projects and stormwater inspection services. Selected candidates will work collaboratively as part of a team. The position involves a variety of work, including invasive plant control, native plant and seed installation, stream bank stabilization and restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management and other types of habitat restoration.
It is a full‑time role, but depends on workload and weather conditions. The majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and rugged terrain, and may involve using heavy equipment such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chainsaws, mowers, etc.
- Understand the contract needs and specifications of clients and their customers and develop appropriate solutions.
- Inspect a wide range of habitats, both natural and disturbed, and assess their condition, health and functionality according to client specifications.
- Identify local species, understand their typical characteristics and recognize common diseases and pests.
- Experience performing NPDES stormwater and/or SWPPP inspections on construction or maintenance projects.
- Construction background, including experience working with heavy equipment and active job sites.
- Train and mentor teammates.
- Work more directly with clients.
- Represent the company and the client at professional meetings.
- Two to four year degree in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture, Hydrology, Soil Science, Zoology or related discipline or equivalent experience in a similar position.
- Master’s degree or advanced education may be required by project.
- Driver’s license and clean driving record are required; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required by project.
- Natural resource consulting experience preferred.
- Possession of or willingness to obtain an Indiana State Chemist Certified Pesticide Applicators License is required.
- Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification; native plant identification a plus.
- Training in chainsaw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV is beneficial.
- Experience performing NPDES stormwater and/or SWPPP inspections on construction or maintenance projects.
- Working knowledge of NPDES permitting requirements, erosion and sediment control BMPs, and stormwater compliance documentation.
- Construction background, including experience working with heavy equipment and active job sites.
- Experience supporting NPDES compliance for linear infrastructure, ditch maintenance, construction, or utility projects.
- Familiarity with SPCC plans, chemical handling, and waste management best practices.
- Experience with ditch maintenance, mowing programs, log removal, skid steer, and excavator operation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs or Google Suite of Applications.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, professional work ethic with attention to detail and safety.
