Position: 2nd shift - General Labor -Downtown Ambassador (IN, South Bend)

SALARY

$20.06 per hour + $0.45 shift differential

SUMMARY

Maintains and performs duties in the downtown and East Bank area. Works with departments to ensure proper care of the downtown areas on both scheduled and unscheduled days. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Downtown Job Leader.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervise any part time staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Street and ground maintenance including weed eating, blowing off areas.
  • Cleans entire property for trash and debris.
  • Hang all Banners and holiday decor.
  • Removes snow and applies salt for safety to all applicable areas.
  • Keep records of completed daily work logs.
  • Communicate with part-time staff regarding work priorities and schedule changes.
  • Maintains clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Be able to communicate with the public as needed, good customer service.
  • May be required to work heights of 10ft or more on ladders.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and consistent performance.
  • Able to maintain best practices and learn new landscape procedures.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • You must be able to work at all special events in that area.
  • Must be able to operate trash trucks and sidewalk sweepers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Two years  experience in ground maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

PREFERRED
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in ground maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to the work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform physical labor.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to care for all the plants and new features.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
EQUIPMENT

Riding mower, push mower, weed eater, leaf blower, tractor, tractor attachments, spraying power washer, pickup truck w/snowplow, shovel, broom, rake, ladders, laptop, cell phone, cordless drill, and various hand tools such as hand pruners, loppers, chainsaw, pole saw.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required in this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK

ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and the water. The employee infrequently works in high precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, and with vibration. The noise level is moderate, except when operating power equipment.
