Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform street maintenance; repair of street surface including manual labor for other job‑related programs, including paving, prep, roto‑mill and working with hot and cold asphalt and crack seal materials.
  • Clean catch basins and hand sweep streets, sidewalks, islands, and approaches.
  • Haul leaves, branches, dirt, debris, and various other materials.
  • Cut and trim bushes and brush on or near streets and alleys.
  • Assist in the maintenance of retention basins.
  • Operate forklift and other small equipment, e.g., skid steer with attachments and backhoe.
  • Work with asphalt lute and other related tools.
  • Operate and drive single and tandem axle dump truck, with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment, pulling various trailers and attachments.
  • Operate Emergency Unit 211.
  • Operate traffic control barricade truck.
  • Operate water flushers.
  • Operate oil and tack distributors.
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on all equipment, such as snow blade changes, mounting/de‑mounting of fall/winter equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for equipment and tools assigned to Equipment Operator II.
  • Operate various types of tools & equipment including but not limited to: 5-ton steel drum roller, leaf vacuum, crack seal machine, patch boxes, air compressors, skid steer w/attachments, zero‑turn mower, chain saw, concrete saw, weed whacker, power hedge trimmers, backpack blower, brooms, shovels, rakes, asphalt lutes, hand tamps, steel pry bar, clay picks, sledgehammers, and all other manual, powered, electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic tools needed to complete assignments as directed by supervisor.
  • Assume responsibility for equipment and tools assigned to Equipment Operator I.
  • Maintain daily reports.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, tools and equipment.
  • Interact with co‑workers and the public with tact and diplomacy.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and consistent performance.
  • Manage time, make sound decisions and work independently.
  • Follow directions and relay work progress in an effective manner.
  • Follow safety procedures, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

Education / Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Must have experience in casting repair, adjustment, and replacement.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and functions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have or be able to obtain within 60 days

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake, Combination Vehicle and Tanker endorsements OR
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s license with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements.
  • Must have ability to obtain valid forklift license.
