General Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs production, facility, and support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role requires strong PLC expertise for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and modification of automated systems; maintenance support of MIG and TIG welding equipment and related environmental controls; and active participation in 5S and workplace organization initiatives.

Effective communication and teamwork are essential to work collaboratively at all levels and support continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements and sustains the Preventative Maintenance Program, including performing required scheduled maintenance on all machines and equipment in accordance with manufacturer‑recommended schedules.
  • Maintains production equipment throughout the plant, ensuring equipment functions to specification, responds to breakdowns, and maintains a strong knowledge of equipment, controls, and processes.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and logic‑based control issues using systematic problem‑solving techniques to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Demonstrates strong PLC capability including online troubleshooting, diagnostics, program modification, and supports automated equipment and processes, serving as a technical resource for PLC‑related issues and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting on welding equipment, ventilation, and environmental control systems, ensuring proper operation and compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
  • Maintains non‑production and facility equipment as required (compressors, building support systems).
  • Supports MIG and TIG welding maintenance needs, including equipment upkeep and environmental prevention practices related to welding fumes, smoke, and particulate control.
  • Conducts shop repairs involving mechanical and electrical work.
  • Installs new equipment and safely performs rigging, moving, and positioning of machinery, including operation, inspection, and maintenance support of overhead cranes and lifting devices.
  • Actively participates in and supports 5S and workplace organization initiatives.
  • Utilizes computer systems and maintenance software effectively for documentation, diagnostics, and communication.
  • Works on special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
Job Requirements

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.

Experience

  • Journeyman Maintenance status, or equivalent of approximately four to ten years of experience as a Maintenance Technician.
  • Demonstrated strong PLC expertise, including online troubleshooting, diagnostics, and basic program modifications in commonly used industrial PLC platforms.
  • Experience maintaining and supporting MIG and TIG welding equipment and associated ventilation or environmental control systems, overhead cranes, rigging, and lifting devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, written diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Additional numerical control or computerized numerical control machine experience is desirable along with hydraulic and pneumatic systems experience.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with ability to work collaboratively with operations, engineering, welders, EHS, and maintenance personnel.
  • Effective problem‑solving skills with a focus on root‑cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
  • Willingness and ability to be trained in, or have specialized training in, OSHA, IOSHA, DOT, Hazmat, and RCRA.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Frequently stands, walks, bends, stoops, kneels, crouches, and reaches while performing preventative and corrective maintenance throughout the plant.
  • Regularly uses hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, assemble, adjust, and operate tools, equipment, controls, and computer interfaces, including PLC programming devices.
  • Can lift, carry, push, and/or pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 60 to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
