Position Overview
As a Data Center Facilities Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data center; managing and maintaining mission-critical data center infrastructure. You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of multiple data center facilities, with a primary focus on power and cooling systems. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with the ability to respond to critical situations 24/7.
This position requires travel between our facilities in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, and offers opportunities to contribute to facility expansion projects and efficiency improvements. - Perform preventive maintenance and repair work: HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
- Perform facility inspections and report on possible issues affecting operations
- Respond toalerts,alarms,and emergencies 24/7, after hours work is to be expected
- Review and understand equipment, methods of operation, BAS system, fire system, chiller system, security systems,andother installed systems.
- Assist with ongoing efforts to improve facility integrity and efficiency. Engineer, create, and complete new data center components and improve efficiency wherever possible.
- Ongoing learning of critical power systems (Including operating and tuning)
- Ongoing learning of process cooling systems including DX, Evaporative Condensing, etc. (Including operating and tuning)
- Basic low voltage electrical work where applicable and as time allows
- Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical order to determine methods and sequences of processes
- Ensure data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, including analyzing existing operating conditions, recommending new technologies, and improving overall efficiency.
- Provide professional support to our clients – including installation,removal,and escorting
- Travel to – and perform maintenance for – data centers in multiple locations. Today those locations include South Bend IN;
Kalamazoo MI;
Bellefontaine, OH; and Plain City, OH - Travel to new facilities as they are built/acquired to perform assessments and train staff on the Aunalytics critical facility management system
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for multiple data center operations, including some weekend and holiday coverage to ensure continuous service availability
- Performs other dutiesas assigned
Technical and General
Skills:
- Electrician or HVAC skills required
- Strong understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment. These include, but are not limited to UPS, Transformers, PDU’s, Chillers, CRAH, CRAC, ATS, Generators, Switchgear, VFD's and Pre-action systems.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA
70e, NFPA
72, NFPA
25, and compliance issues as well as building codes in regard to fire life safety - Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and facility monitoring systems
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and operating critical power infrastructure (UPS systems, generators, switch gear)
- Experience with industrial cooling systems including DX and evaporative cooling technologies
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and procedures
- Experience in facilities management, preferably in data center or critical infrastructure environments, a plus, but not required
- Understanding of data center infrastructure and operations
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 25% of the time
