Job Description:
South Bend Community School Corporation Volunteer Coaches play a crucial role in developing the skills, confidence, and sportsmanship of our participants and supporting our paid coaching staff. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to make a positive impact on the community and gain valuable experience in coaching and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and deliver engaging and age-appropriate training sessions for SBCSC Athletics that focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship under direction of the Athletics Department.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive team environment that encourages personal and athletic growth.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and organization staff to provide updates on progress, schedules, and any concerns.
- Monitor and assess participant performance, providing constructive feedback and motivation to help individuals achieve their personal and team goals.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices, games, and related activities.
- Assist with the coordination of team events, competitions, and community outreach initiatives.
- Promote the organization's values and contribute to a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the specific sport or activity as a player or coach is preferred but not required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire youth and/or adult participants.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Reliable and punctual, with a genuine interest in volunteerism and community service.
- Willingness to undergo training and adhere to the organization's coaching philosophy and safety protocols.
- Must pass a background check in accordance with SBCSC Board Policy.
