Job Summary
Line Haul Drivers operate various tractor-trailer combinations over long distances between customer service centers and customer facilities or work sites outside of the service center’s geographic area. They sort, handle, load, and/or unload freight at company and customer locations.
Primary Responsibilities- Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials.
- Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation and satisfactorily pass a drug test and alcohol test.
- Perform pre‑trip inspections of vehicles before beginning trips.
- Ensure that products loaded onto the trailer are stable and will not shift during transit and delivery; adjust load securement and distribution as needed.
- Operate tablets/phones to record information regarding deliveries and begin navigation.
- Unsecure freight for delivery and unload freight at drop‑off locations with a hand truck.
- Be available for around‑the‑clock shifts to accommodate freight movements and be away from home for extended periods.

- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- 12 months of tractor‑trailer driving experience or graduation from a State‑Certified and Licensed truck driving school acceptable to Old Dominion, or completion of the Old Dominion truck driver training program (ODTDT 8/88).
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple trailers, tanker, and hazardous material endorsements.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in operating handheld mini‑computers and tablets.
- Must be available for around‑the‑clock trips and extended periods away from home.
- Must meet or exceed medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation, pass drug and alcohol tests, and successfully complete orientation/training program instructions by an Old Dominion qualified driver trainer.
Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for up to 11 hours, stand, walk, and bend on various surfaces, lift and carry freight up to 500 pounds, load and unload full trailers weighing as much as 50,000 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks such as using pallet jacks, handling shrink wrap, and operating manual transmissions. Cognitive and sensory skills are required for traffic inspection, freight handling, and communication with customers.

Working Days & ShiftMonday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday; AM/PM shifts. Estimates are subject to change based on scheduling and business needs.
