Career Tech Academy Information Technology Instructor
The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of an Information Technology Instructor at the Career Tech Academy (CTA). The Career Tech Academy is a hands on regional technical training center located at the SVHEC available to high school students from Charlotte, Halifax, and Mecklenburg Counties. High school students can earn community college credits, a Career Studies Certificate, and Industry Endorsed Credentials.
Duties of the CTA IT Instructor position includes, but are not limited to: developing, implementing, and evaluating the Career Tech Academy IT Program with a focus on preparing trainees with industry recognized credentials in demand by local and regional employers; performing classroom and laboratory instructional duties in the IT program utilizing the distributed model; providing a training program for high school students with Monday – Friday scheduling;
and working collaboratively with others, internal and external to the SVHEC (including providing hands on training in the workplace to classroom learners), in carrying out agency duties and responsibilities. The CTA IT Program allows students to complete core curriculum and instructional courses in one year of high school preparing them for CompTIA's A+, and Server+ assessments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Extensive instructional experience in secondary or higher education; extensive knowledge of IT systems, hardware, servers, networking to the extent necessary to teach a cohort of students and ability to apply knowledge to create real-world scenarios and simulations in a data center lab; considerable work experience in information technology or information technology related environment involving assisting and/or training others to perform to use information technology.
Considerable work experience in program/project management. Proficiency with word processing, database and presentation software applications. Ability to use information technology to perform work tasks/responsibilities. Proven ability to work effectively with educational and corporate partners as well as high school learners, adult non-traditional learners, and other workforce stakeholders. Possess leadership, facilitation, collaboration, and strong teamwork orientation and multi-level customer service experience.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional Considerations:
Coursework in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or related field. One or more CompTIA certifications (A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Cloud+ or Linux+) or comparable Cisco or Microsoft certifications. Virginia Department of Education Licensure as an IT CTE Instructor.
