Position: Lead Advance Practice Provider FT Days - RWJMS Neurosurgery - New Brunswick

Responsibilities

The Lead Neurosurgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions within prescribed guidelines, providing care for neurosurgical patients in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery physicians and staff. The role includes supervising, educating, and mentoring other APPs, covering faculty sites, managing on-call schedules, and serving as a clinical resource for troubleshooting and triage.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing patient care and serving as a resource to all clinical teams regarding patient and disease management.
  • Acting as a clinical resource to troubleshoot events or issues and triage new patients as needed.
  • Monitoring efficiency and effectiveness of APP workflows and clinical documentation.
  • Assisting faculty with taking histories, performing physical exams and procedures, and participating in patient flow.
  • Covering departmental sites and handling all types of leave for APP teams.

Job Specific Requirements:

  • Assists office staff with patient questions, and preauthorization of specific tests/procedures.
  • Communicates with collaborating MDs in a timely manner (e.g., patient abnormalities).
  • Coordinates discharge plan, education, and follow-up.
  • Develops and initiates individualized plans of care in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals to medical consultants and other disciplines in collaboration with the physician.
  • Orders and evaluates pertinent diagnostic tests appropriate to the patient’s plan of care.
  • Participates in education of junior residents and medical and physician assistant students.
  • Performs and documents comprehensive and episodic health histories and physical examinations.
  • Prescribes, monitors, and adjusts medications according to the medical plan of care.
  • Provides and documents appropriate health education to patient and family regarding disease process, management of treatment side effects, medical interventions, and health promotion.
  • Provides appropriate follow-up care including routine and acute assessments and examinations; assesses progress, identifies problems, and initiates preventative measures in collaboration with the physician.
  • Provides safe, quality care to patients.
  • Serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff regarding patient disease management and postoperative course.
  • Examines pre‑ and post‑operative patients, performs comprehensive examination, complete assessment, implement treatment plan, and document in medical record.
  • First assists in performing surgical procedures consistent with standards of care.
  • Participates in recruitment process for incoming advanced practice providers hires.
  • Performs admission evaluation on patients, including obtaining basic medical information and history, reviewing patient records, performing physical exam, documenting findings, and reporting deviations to the attending physician.

Schedule
  • 8:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday – Friday
  • No call, no weekends or shift work
  • Outpatient position
Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered PA in the State of NJ;
    Certified PA in State of NJ;
    Successful completion of all Orientation Programs and BCLS certified.
  • For Nurse Practitioner:
    Able to see and treat all ages of patients and have RNFA at time of application.
  • Must have 4+ years’ experience in a Surgical Practice.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $144,000 to $210,000 per year. Compensation offered will depend on factors such as the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
