Beta Technologies is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer (M&P) to join the team developing and manufacturing vertical takeoff, electric aircraft (eVTOL). The ideal candidate has M&P experience in aerospace, product development, and strong collaborative skills. The ability to guide design teams, manufacturing teams, and suppliers in development and manufacturing of the aircraft is essential.
The M&P Engineer will qualify materials, develop and improve processes, work with quality to disposition NCRs, and audit internal and supplier facilities. The role includes involvement in R&D activities, writing test plans, and overseeing test execution, including material qualification, process development, component development, manufacturability optimization, and related activities along the path of developing and efficiently manufacturing the aircraft.
Responsibilities- Guide and support design teams in the development of aircraft components
- Collaborate with suppliers for materials, components, equipment, etc.
- Work with manufacturing teams to optimize manufacturability, reduce cycle time, and define equipment requirements
- Work with quality to implement controls for materials, processes, and operator training
- Audit internal and external facilities
- Write and review engineering documents, drawings, material specifications, and process specifications
- Coordinate and carry out material and process qualifications
- Write test plans and execute testing
- Support first article inspections and conformity activities
- Troubleshoot engineering and manufacturing issues
- Travel for manufacturing support and supplier audits as required
- Role is primarily on-site
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Materials or Aerospace Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years aerospace experience; 10+ years preferred
- Strong knowledge of industry specifications for materials, processes, testing, and quality
- Experience writing specifications, generating test plans, overseeing and executing testing, and writing test reports
- Strong problem-solving skills and an outside-the-box thinker
- Enjoys coaching and teaching with solid collaborative skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external customers
- High energy, self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented
- Proficient at learning new tools and software
- A passion for aerospace
- Electrical systems knowledge is an asset
- Experience with composites, batteries and/or motors is desirable
- Experience in product development and supporting certification is an asset
- Mix of office work and time in lab, hangar, or manufacturing environments; reasonable accommodations available
- Prolonged sitting and computer work
- Ability to walk, stand, and move through production areas as needed
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- May require use of PPE in designated areas
- Occasional travel to suppliers, test sites, or partner facilities
- Exposure to typical aerospace prototyping environments including noise, tools, and test equipment
The wage listed reflects our best estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and evolving needs of the role. We are committed to fair and equitable pay and open to discussion during the interview process.
Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000 USD
