Position Description
Job Title: Transportation Van Driver
Location: Transportation Services
Job Group: Union, Support Staff
Pay Level: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Transportation Department Supervisor
Summary: Responsible for the safe operation of a school van (less than 16 driver/passengers) while transporting students to assigned locations. May assist students while loading and unloading a vehicle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates vehicles in a safe manner and in keeping with applicable driving laws. Reports problems with vehicle and/or driving hazards to supervisor.
- Responsible for the safety and security of assigned students while transporting to various locations.
- Ensures that the vehicle is properly cleaned and maintained; keeps vehicle hazard free, cooperates to keep co-workers and students safe.
- Works safely within established guidelines for safe lifting techniques.
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule.
- May assist, as necessary, in other areas of transportation.

Education and/or
Experience:
Must be a high school graduate, or have a General Educational Development Diploma (GED). Previous experience with transporting passengers or light truck delivery desired.
Licenses and/or Certificates: Valid Vermont Driver’s License with clean record. CDL preferred, but not required. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate (CPR);
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certificate; and First Aid Certification is required. Drivers must qualify for a DOT medical card.

Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, lists, and documents such as safety rules, maps, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to develop and write routine and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one, and in small group situations.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to apply basic math skills: addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication and weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning
Skills:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students, staff, and others by demonstrating patience, kindness, and courtesy. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass state driver’s license skill test. Ability to manage students and equipment. Ability to observe student behavior and advise supervisors of concerns and/or issues. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies.
