Summary Description

Cost Accountant position. Responsibilities include pricing products or services, monthly billings, reconciliations and pool allocations of direct and indirect cost accounts, intercompany reporting, trend analysis, variance investigation, presentations to upper management, budgeting assistance, and audit support. Requires intermediate-to-expert Excel skills and strong analytical ability.

What You’ll Do
  • Exercise accounting control over a group of specialized accounts.
  • Analyze complex financial data and define relevant information.
  • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Provide information to customers, explain accounting transactions, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Research expenses and explain cost and allocation variances.
  • Prepare budgets for assigned departments and assist cost-center managers.
  • Ensure expenses are allocated in accordance with contracts and operating standards.
  • Develop financial reports for analysis, forecasting, trending, budgeting and results.
  • Use software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical and graphic packages to assemble and manipulate data.
  • Review work of less experienced staff and prepare training sessions for recurrent errors.
  • Review departmental policies, procedures, and forms to identify improvement opportunities and propose updates.
  • Respond to requests for proposals: develop rates and pricing assumptions, review contract clauses, and prepare audit packages.
  • Handle special projects, including internal/external audit coordination, system functionality reviews, and implementation of system enhancements with information systems.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field with at least 24 semester hours in Accounting. (Prior hires with 21 semester hours before August 1 2008 qualify.)

8 years of accounting experience.
