Job Description

The Tax Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all tax-related operations for the University, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations across payroll, financial, and regulatory reporting functions. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert on tax compliance, providing leadership, guidance, and oversight for payroll tax, institutional tax reporting, and complex tax-related transactions.

The Tax Supervisor manages and monitors payroll tax activities, including processing tax adjustments (such as international and student FICA corrections), reviewing liability accounts, and ensuring accurate tax calculations and timely remittance of all federal and state payroll taxes. This role oversees reconciliations between payroll and the general ledger, prepares and reviews journal entries, and ensures timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end tax reporting.

In addition to payroll tax responsibilities, the Tax Supervisor ensures compliance with federal reporting requirements, including Section 117 foreign source reporting, by compiling, reviewing, and submitting required reports to the Department of Education. The role leads tax compliance efforts by establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, responding to tax notices and audits, coordinating with external agencies, and ensuring accurate and timely filing of all required tax returns, including quarterly payroll tax filings. The Tax Supervisor interprets and implements regulatory changes, ensures proper system configuration within Workday, and drives process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
