Job Summary:

The Post Award Accountant will comprehensively manage a portfolio of sponsored awards to ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with award, sponsor, institutional, and regulatory requirements. Provide guidance and technical assistance to Principal Investigators and departments throughout the post-award lifecycle.

Job Related Minimum Required

Education and Experience:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • People Soft or other ERP experience
  • Higher education experience
  • Sponsored award and/or contract accounting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories, and terminology of accounting, budgeting, and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to understand and research, the principles of grant management and reporting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state fiscal accounting processes.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data, reports, and contract terms and conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Job Duty:

Monitor sponsored award expenses to ensure charges are allowable, allocable, reasonable, consistent, and within budget, ensuring compliance with award, sponsor, and institutional requirements. Provide financial guidance and support to Principal Investigators and departmental staff by fielding inquiries, interpreting award, sponsor, institutional requirements and assisting in resolving financial issues. Perform accounting and administrative duties related to sponsored awards, including maintaining accurate records, preparing journal entries, and completing timely closeouts.
