As the Fiscal Technician I, working under limited supervision, you will maintain a daily accounting of resident's personal funds and facility petty cash through the completion of required accounting procedures and internal agency requirements. You will perform a full range of accounting duties, involving posting and updating of records for the Cashier/Postal Office using an automated system (Avatar/MyUnity).
Responsibilities for the Fiscal Technician I- Responsible for cashier operations and functions including preparing credit card, cash, and check receipts. Review receipt and disbursements of patient state and state funds to ensure that proper transactions occur for deposit to personal funds accounts, social security, patient payroll checks, and shopping trips. Transactions include verifying funds availability in patients accounts, disbursing petty cash, verifying spending or purchase, writing receipts, preparing vouchers, depositing funds and sending to the Office of Mental Health Business Office.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of invoices, receipts, vouchers, or bank deposits;
Process the batching and posting of financial data into the system, the calculation of data to be deposited and the maintenance of records in accordance with the state's retention schedule. - Review request for patient funds with staff to verify available funds requested against Avatar balances; check for daily funds with the A&D offices for after hour transactions.
- Accept payments for miscellaneous revenues such as parking tickets, lost keys, medical records, etc.
- Perform tracking, sorting and processing of mail in the operation of BPH and WS Hall Post Office. Working knowledge of hospital and US Postal Regulations.
- Some lifting in the performance of specified duties.
- A high school diploma.
- One (1) year of clerical accounting or cashier experience; or three (3) years of clerical accounting or cashier experience.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
- Have knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Have knowledge of basic principles and practices of accounting, cashiering, and bookkeeping and various types of filing systems.
- Be able to perform basic mathematical computations; interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations able to perform prescribed analyses of financial records.
- Be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff members and the general public and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Exercise sound judgement and work independently.
- Have in-depth knowledge of how SCOMH accounting system functions (work involves payment of numerous invoices, requires use of computer, copy machine, fax, and 10-key calculator, and Microsoft Office suite).
- Keep the cashier's office secured and audit ready.
