This position is located in Orangeburg, SC.
Job DescriptionThe purpose of the class is to perform a variety of advanced and complex clerical work in the preparation and maintenance of department records, to perform a variety of clerical tasks as assigned, and to always provide professional and courteous customer service. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences;
work is reviewed periodically by the supervisor.
Essential job functions include leading the preparation, processing, copying, indexing, filing, transmitting and/or maintaining of various legal documents including, but not limited to, motions and responsive pleadings. Provides direct support to the legal team. Audits and ensures the security and confidentiality of files as appropriate. Reviews records and forms, verifies information, and resolves complex problems. Gathers information and data for meetings;
upon the request of Attorney, prepares meeting agendas. Conducts research in legal matters. Prepares complex and confidential legal correspondence, memoranda, reports, etc. Types letters, memos, and other legal correspondence. Coordinates and schedules court hearings, prepares and mails hearing notices. Assists attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and client meetings. Provide general information to clients about the progress of their case.
May attend internal and external meetings. Prepares and files various court motions and orders. Request case files and evidence from Law Enforcement. May prepare transport orders and coordinate transport for inmates. May run criminal histories for case files. Answers phones; responds to emails. Assists co-workers with clerical duties as necessary. Operates a personal computer and appropriate software packages or its equivalent pertaining to departmental activities.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and experience:
Associate degree with emphasis in business, legal studies or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and training. Requires at least five (5) years of related work experience. Special qualifications:
Paralegal certification highly preferred. NCIC Certification preferred. Work is performed in a relatively safe, secure, and stable work environment.
