The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is dedicated to impacting and transforming young lives, strengthening families, and supporting safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Juvenile Justice Detention Center Facility Administrator, this position plans and directs administrative support activities for the Juvenile Detention Center of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and direct administrative services and support activities, including information management; research to resolve billing disputes, special projects, and processes confidential and sensitive materials.
  • Enter data into the agency’s JJMS system and serve as liaison to DJJ community offices concerning JJMS; review and monitor data entered by others for accuracy.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance to JCO(s) entering data into the systems and creating files for youth.
  • Manage IVIS (Internet Victim Information System) for the Detention Center to ensure notification is provided to victims of youth being released and/or other related transports affecting victims.
  • Work in conjunction with other administrative staff to ensure monthly reports are provided to the Victim Services Coordinator.
  • Maintain and post various department and programmatic information to logs and ledgers, such as the agency’s policy and procedure manual, the facility daily summary, and other related reports.
  • Organize, create, and update policy and procedure manuals for the facility; provide training updates for staff during meetings.
  • Perform special assignments and research projects, obtaining data relating to a variety of subjects including statistical and progress reports.
  • Prepare and maintain confidential and sensitive information files by assisting in the hiring of employees through background checks.
  • Serve as liaison between the employees of the facility and the agency Human Resource/Fiscal Affairs Offices, regarding time sheets, leave requests, EMPS, and pick up and issue checks.
  • Coordinate and comply with average daily reports, complete and maintain Memorandum of Agreement(s) for all counties, cities, and towns.
  • Complete and verify all Human Resource paperwork for the facility, including termination PAF(s), hiring packets, posting authorization, and monitor disciplinary action for facility.
Minimum Requirements
  • A high school diploma and work experience directly related to the area of employment.
Additional Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles/procedures of public administration.
  • Working knowledge of information management systems and other computer-related functions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting/applying established departmental policies/procedures, plan/assign/direct, review work of others and understand and carry out complex oral/written instructions.
  • Experience relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, with direct and indirect contact with youth anticipated. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and one (1) year of responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience; or five (5) years of responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience.
