Job Responsibilities

The SC Department of Agriculture has a

SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

available within our Agribusiness and Agritourism Department

for students seeking a degree in agriculture, marketing or a similar field.

Agribusiness and Agritourism - Statehouse grounds in downtown Columbia.

As an Agribusiness and Agritourism intern, you will work directly with the Executive Director of the Agribusiness Center for Research and Entrepreneurship (ACRE) and the Agritourism Marketing Specialist. With ACRE, you'll coordinate ACRE events, site visits, and conduct research and grant reporting related to the program. With Agritourism, the intern will attend Agritourism events, visit Agritourism operations, work with the Certified Roadside Market program, and assist with promotions, presentations, and provide assistance during events as assigned.

Assisting with record/database maintenance; mailings; and other administrative tasks related to the marketing of the assigned programs and events. Some weekend work and travel is required due to the nature of the programs, therefore reliable transportation is required. If you are not able to ride with an agency employee, mileage will be reimbursed at the approved state mileage rate.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior or attending graduate school for the  academic year.

* Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, MS Power Point and Outlook email and Outlook calendar.

* Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.

* Good oral and written communication skills.

Additional Comments

* Housing is the responsibility of selected candidate, and no stipend is provided.

* Surface level parking in a state lot is available on a first-come, first-serve basis each day. Metered parking will be the responsibility of selected candidate if unable to secure a surface level spot in a state lot.
