This position requires significant breadth and depth of financial aid knowledge across all aspects of counseling, processing, and eligibility determinations. The employee must have advanced communication, collaboration, data processing, and computer literacy skills, and will work mainly within the financial aid department under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid. The role may require working beyond 40 hours during peak periods and occasional overnight travel.
Job Duties- Provide life‑cycle processing for a substantial case load, encompassing packaging, verification, loans, SAP, professional judgments, State Aid, Pell Grant LEU, UEH, defaults, over payments, student eligibility, and citizenship review.
- Counsel and assist students and parents on all aspects of aid eligibility, application, renewal, and financial planning, communicating effectively and educating on policies and procedures.
- Lead proactive student and academic outreach including FAFSA completion support, high‑school nights, orientation, EDGE, Grad Fest, class presentations, partnership with academic divisions, and participation in student success teams and academic meetings.
- Review, recommend, and manage policy, procedure, and process improvements for areas such as Satisfactory Academic Progress, Direct Loans, State Aid, and Federal Work‑Study.
- Act as a lead advisor in one of the following areas:
- Website/consumer information – manage the department’s public website, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Entrance, Exit, and In‑Grace counseling – coordinate all outreach efforts and lead related events.
- TC Cares and SC Thrive – partner with student engagement, providing support to under‑resourced populations.
- Undocumented and Homeless students – serve as liaison and advisor for these student groups.
- Support, develop, and deliver financial literacy programming at the Money Management Center; provide financial aid knowledge to departments in the One Stop Matrix Management System; participate in professional development and cross‑training; serve on committees.
Bachelor’s degree and experience in higher education, federal and state financial aid laws, and student information systems. In lieu of direct financial aid experience, prior experience in case management and regulatory compliance is acceptable.
- Knowledge and experience with student information systems (BANNER preferred).
- Efficient implementation of college policies and procedures.
- Strong critical thinking, creativity, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to provide supportive counseling for diverse student issues.
