Overview
It’s an extraordinary day camp adventure at Camp Cathy located at the Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC. We’re seeking enthusiastic seasonal, summer Camp Counselors seeking to grow their leadership skills while delivering high-quality, girl-centered camp experiences over a 9-week period. Lead engaging activities around Life Skills, Outdoors, STEM, and Entrepreneurship, giving girls opportunities to engage in rock wall climbing, aquatics fun, art, design, and so much more.
No prior Girl Scout experience required.
Join us for a summer of meaningful work and adventure – as a Counselor, you lead daily programs, support and guide Counselors in daily program delivery, and help maintain a positive, safe camper-first culture that values individuality, growth, and fun!
Responsibilities- Lead daily programs and support other Counselors in delivering a high-quality, girl-centered camp experience.
- Maintain a positive, safe, camper-first culture that values individuality, growth, and fun.
- Be a team player and a positive role model for young campers ages 5-17, including activities such as singing camp songs, team-building games, and camp programming.
- Engage campers by bringing programs to life, building real connections, and helping them grow.
- Help campers and staff thrive together, resolve conflicts, and solve problems by modeling openness and clear communication.
- Demonstrate respect for diversity, individuality, and empowerment of youth.
- Support girl camper engagement throughout the day, including lunch and daily cleanup, while fostering responsibility, teamwork, and camp community pride.
- Learn and implement the crisis management plan and emergency procedures; be aware of ongoing medical needs of campers in the group.
Your background and girl-led leadership passion includes:
- No prior Girl Scout experience required to apply.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (advanced education or college preferred).
- At least 1 year of relevant experience facilitating youth activities with ages 5–17 years old.
- First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided during camp staff orientation).
- Upon start, hold personal membership in Girl Scout organization; subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

- Must be capable of being very active in indoor/outdoor environments with varying weather, sun exposure, and natural habitats, including animals and/or insects.
- Ability to perform activities at a camper level, including bending, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to practice self-care by staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and asking for help when needed.

Schedule & CompensationSummer Orientation / Work Schedule /
Compensation:
Day camp spans 9 weeks in the summer with a paid orientation session (required) to kick off summer camp. Schedules are 7am – 4:30pm or 8am – 5:30pm.
Summer seasonal employment is a seasonal exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Department of Labor (DOL). This classifies the position as exempt from federal minimum and overtime wage requirements, with compensation delivered as a daily rate plus.
