Position: Safety Director at Mashburn Construction Columbia, SC

Job Description

The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all safety protocols at active construction sites to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role requires proactive leadership, strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, field workers, and subcontractors to prevent accidents and promote a culture of safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Conduct pre-project site evaluations to identify potential safety risks before work begins.
  • Perform regular site visits to assess ongoing work conditions and ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety standards.
  • Partner with project management teams and field staff to develop and implement corrective solutions for safety-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including OSHA logs and incident reports.
  • Oversee and track employee safety training, ensuring certifications remain current.
  • Lead employee training sessions on safe work practices and procedures.
  • Enforce compliance with safety standards, including disciplining employees and subcontractors when necessary.

Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey safety information effectively.
  • Active listening skills, with the ability to receive feedback objectively and address concerns appropriately.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations.
  • Excellent recordkeeping and organizational abilities.
  • Physical ability to access elevated work areas using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts to evaluate safety conditions.
  • Understanding of construction processes and skilled trades relevant to commercial projects, enabling effective risk assessment and solution development.
