Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Labor / Trades
Reeves Construction Company, the Colas USA subsidiary specializing in heavy civil highway and site development construction, is seeking a General Laborer based at the Blacksburg Asphalt Plant in Blacksburg, SC. The role focuses on safety excellence and physical labor across roadway and site construction projects.
MissionGeneral Laborer – responsible for various manual tasks to support road and site construction operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform physically demanding tasks such as shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt, and concrete.
- Assist in cutting or trimming trees and vegetation using axes, ditch blades, sling blades, chainsaws, or power weed trimmers.
- Drive stakes or break pavement using sledge hammers, dig holes with hand‑operated post hole diggers, and operate hand‑driven compaction devices.
- Broom debris and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
- Work at asphalt plants, existing roads or streets under traffic, new roads and streets without traffic, building sites, or shop facilities.
- Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Adapt to various labor activities as assigned by crew supervisors.
- Previous experience in road or site construction (preferred).
- Valid driving license (preferred) and reliable transportation to job sites.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to comply with company policies.
- Availability for periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Wearing appropriate safety apparel: safety vests, glasses, long pants, and safety‑toed shoes.
- Legal right to work in the United States.
The position requires regular use of hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, speaking, and hearing. The employee must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and maintain vision requirements of 20/40 with or without corrective lenses. Hearing must be excellent or corrected with an audio device.
Work EnvironmentWork occurs outdoors and/or in shop facilities, exposing the employee to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and occasionally wet, humid, or toxic substances. Noise levels are usually very loud.
