S&M E is looking for a motivated and passionate entry-level Construction Materials Professional to join our Construction Services team in Florence, South Carolina.
As an entry-level Construction Materials Professional, you play an important role in supporting the safety and reliability of construction projects by testing, inspecting, and verifying the properties and quality of materials used in the field.
Your Day-to-Day:- Material Testing & Inspections: Conduct field testing and assist with special inspections of construction materials—soils, concrete, asphalt, and related materials—to confirm compliance with project requirements and applicable industry standards.
- Reviewing Plans & Specifications: Examine construction drawings and project specifications to ensure they support project objectives prior to performing on-site observations.
- Field Documentation & Data Management: Maintain accurate records of field activities, observations, and test outcomes, entering information daily into Metafield® or other project management systems to support efficient tracking and coordination.
- Report & Proposal Support: Assist in preparing reports and proposals for smaller assignments, ensuring findings and documentation are clear, complete, and technically sound.
- Team & Client Communication: Coordinate regularly with supervisors, contractors, and clients to share updates, discuss field findings, and help keep projects progressing smoothly.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a similar technical field.
- 0-2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt.
- Willingness to obtain at least one (1) industry certification within 6 months of employment.
- Basic math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day).
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40–50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment).
- Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites.
- Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise.
- Willingness and ability to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of company‑provided Personal Protective Equipment.
