Construction Inspector – West Columbia, SC (On‑Site)
Responsibilities- Observe daily construction activities and document them on required reports.
- Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
- Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
- Perform accurate calculations and computations.
- Sample and test construction materials to confirm they meet quality requirements.
- Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications.
- Report any non‑compliance actions and safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
- Record daily work reports, including quantities for Site Manager and AASHTO projects.
- Above‑average math and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn new computer skills quickly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Current driver’s license with a safe driving record.
ICE provides training and support for inspectors to obtain required certifications. The following certifications align with SCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.
Entry‑Level – Junior Inspector- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or BS in Civil Engineering (preferred).
- One year of inspection experience is desirable but not required.
- One preferred certification:
- SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician
- SCDOT Earthwork Drainage & Base Technician
- SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and 2
- ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Technician – Grade 1
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or BS in Civil Engineering (preferred).
- Five years of inspection experience required.
- Two required certifications:
- SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician
- SCDOT Earthwork Drainage & Base Technician
- SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and 2
- ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Technician – Grade 1
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or BS in Civil Engineering (preferred).
- Ten years of inspection experience required.
- Required certifications:
- SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician
- SCDOT Earthwork Drainage & Base Technician
- SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and 2
- ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Technician – Grade 1
- Foundations Technician
- Nuclear Gauge Safety Training
- Hazmat
May lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must travel to and tour work sites under adverse conditions including noise, dust, extreme temperatures, uneven terrain, and vehicle traffic. Must be able to visually inspect materials and structures in various weather conditions.
Expected Hours of WorkFull‑time (40 hours per week). Office hours 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an unpaid hour for lunch. Overtime may occur and will be compensated at time and a half.
