Quality Control Asphalt Technician – Walterboro / Summerville, SC Build Your Career in Asphalt Quality Control

Banks Construction Company is actively hiring a Quality Control Asphalt Technician to support our Walterboro and Summerville areas. This is a great opportunity for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable with basic math, and interested in learning a specialized career in asphalt quality control.

No previous asphalt quality control experience? That’s okay. We are willing to train the right person who is hardworking, safety-minded, and eager to learn. This could be a great fit for someone with experience in construction, paving, asphalt plants, materials testing, surveying, manufacturing, warehouse operations, equipment, mechanics, or other hands‑on work where accuracy and attention to detail matter.

In this role, you’ll support asphalt quality control testing in the field and lab, collect material samples, complete required testing, and help ensure our asphalt materials and roadway projects meet quality standards.

the Quality Division

The Quality Division plays an important role in our construction and asphalt operations. This team is responsible for testing materials used in asphalt production and heavy highway construction to help ensure our projects meet federal, state, local, and project‑specific requirements. Quality Control Technicians play an important part in making sure asphalt materials meet project specifications, and this position can lead to long‑term growth within quality, asphalt operations, plant operations, and heavy civil construction.

What

You’ll Do

As a Quality Control Asphalt Technician, you’ll complete a variety of field and lab tasks to correctly obtain material samples, conduct quality testing, and analyze material performance. You may help with:

  • Performing field testing in accordance with project specifications
  • Completing required reports and paperwork accurately and on time
  • Performing daily quality control tests on asphalt products
  • Helping ensure asphalt materials meet federal, state, local, and project‑specific requirements
  • Collecting aggregate samples from rail cars, stockpiles, and other locations
  • Obtaining moisture samples and other required materials for testing
  • Using lab and field equipment, including nuclear gauges, high‑temperature ovens, and coring saws
  • Assisting with roadway testing and asphalt placement quality checks
  • Supporting the company’s quality goals and productivity standards
  • Following all company safety, environmental, and quality procedures
  • Communicating with the Quality Control Manager, plant teams, and field crews
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned
Schedule

This position requires flexibility with scheduling. Candidates must be available for rotating weekend and night work as needed based on project schedules, plant production, weather, and customer needs. Hours may vary, and overtime may be required.

  • Has a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
