As part of HDR’s Field Services team, you’ll be on the front lines of infrastructure development, ensuring designs are built to the highest standards. You will inspect earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures for conformance to plans and specifications. Responsibilities include performing material sampling and testing, calculations, and contract documentation duties such as field measurements of pay items and other required documentation.
Work may also include other duties as assigned. Night and/or weekend work may be required as dictated by client project needs.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions
- Skills in using office equipment such as calculators and computers
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications
- Ability to take notes, prepare or review reports, good communicative ability, and to instruct other employees in proper work methods
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule
- Willingness to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections
- Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
- Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects preferred
- Local candidates preferred
- SCDOT certifications, other DOT certifications or ability to obtain them most preferred
- LI‑SM1
- High school diploma or equivalent (8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute for a high school diploma)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Successful drug‑screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
