Location: Blacksburg, SC
Pay: $175,000-$200,000/year
** RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE**
We're hiring for an experienced Chief Estimator to lead estimating and preconstruction efforts for large-scale heavy civil projects. This position will oversee the estimating team, manage bid strategy and pricing, and work closely with operations and leadership from pursuit through handoff.
Responsibilities- Lead estimating and preconstruction for heavy civil construction projects
- Manage and mentor an estimating team of approximately 4-5
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes, and bid requirements
- Develop detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs, labor/equipment assumptions, and pricing
- Lead bid reviews, risk analysis, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and final proposal preparation
- Develop competitive bid strategies while protecting project margins
- Coordinate with operations, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and leadership
- Maintain estimating standards, historical cost data, and estimating processes
- Support project handoff from estimating into operations
- Evaluate constructability, schedule impacts, production rates, and project risks
- Strong estimating background with a heavy civil contractor
- Experience leading complex civil estimates and bid strategy
- Strong understanding of earthwork, grading, site development, utilities, concrete, and related civil scopes
- Experience managing or mentoring estimators
- Strong cost analysis, quantity takeoff, and subcontractor/vendor management skills
- Ability to review plans, specifications, and technical documents
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Solar civil estimating experience preferred, but not required
