The Responsibilities of the Digital Media Director

  • Manages all aspects of the South Carolina Forestry Commission’s social media operations – specifically Facebook, X, Instagram and You Tube – leading the creative development of engaging, impactful and relevant content through a dynamic combination of writing, photography, graphic design and especially video production; collaborates with all agency stakeholders, internal and external, to raise awareness of the agency's mission, people and activities as well as achieve continued growth;

    develops analytics measures and reporting procedures to validate the effectiveness and impact of visual and digital communications efforts as they relate to the execution of the agency's communications strategy; stays abreast of emerging platforms to ensure the relevance, currency and vitality of agency communications.
  • Serves as the official agency photographer and videographer, traveling as needed to document agency activities, personnel and events as well as provide content for agency publications and other vehicles; manages all aspects of video production, editing and dissemination, including official public service announcements, promotional content, educational products, training videos and ad hoc projects of considerable variety; responsible for all visual/digital media resources, assets and needs, including camera equipment inventory, photo libraries and request fulfillment;

    executes the visual and digital components of the agency's comprehensive communications strategy to facilitate effective, timely and impactful informational and educational communications.
  • Serves as an official spokesperson who also represents the agency publicly in the media and at partner‑led, education‑related and community events (Wood Magic, FASC annual conference, Woodland Clinic, etc.), providing accurate, timely and transparent media responses and interviews about wildfires, emergency situations and agency services, among others, while protecting the agency's brand, image and reputation.
  • Responds to requests for information and assistance from media, landowners, citizens and partners about everything from prescribed burns and wildfires to smoke complaints and agency services, among others.
  • Performs other duties as required in support of the agency’s mission and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material via visual media and digital platforms, specifically writing, producing, editing, packaging and distributing video, digital and social media content for a variety of internal and external audiences and purposes.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • A criminal background check and drug test are required.
Additional Requirements
  • This position is based in an office environment, but also involves working outdoors for social media postings, agency and partner/community events. Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods of time working on a computer. Must be able to lift 25 lbs, bend and squat.
  • Normal work schedule is Monday‑Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Requires travel for work during regular business hours and sometimes at night or overnight, and occasionally working on weekends and multi‑day, out‑of‑town events. Night and weekend monitoring of and responsiveness to internal and external communications required.
  • Proficiency in managing and leveraging social media platforms – specifically Facebook, X, Instagram and You Tube – to promote agency messaging, communicate with the public and provide extensive analytical reporting for each. Ability to strategize, anticipate, produce and schedule social media content far in advance as well as create ad‑hoc messages and visual graphics for posts, presentations and other communication products.
  • High proficiency in using photo/video camera equipment as well as production/editing software and techniques to integrate visual/digital subject matter into social media campaigns, promotional videos, training curricula and a wide range of other visual/digital content.
