Part‑Time Worship Leader

Ember Church — Chester, South Carolina

About Ember Church

Ember is a multicultural, multigenerational, economically diverse church with a weekly attendance of around 75 people in Chester, SC. Our message is simple. Love has come! And His name is Jesus.

We believe the church should be a place where people can be honest, encounter God, find healing and restoration, and learn to love God and one another well. We are intentionally moving away from a highly institutional or performance‑driven model of church and toward something more authentic, relational and spiritually formative. Equally important to our Sunday gatherings is the work we do outside the walls of the church in areas of housing, food, and recovery based ministries.

We are looking for a part‑time Worship Leader who shares that vision.

The Opportunity

The Worship Leader will help Ember cultivate a worship culture that is Christ‑centered, Spirit‑led, authentic and genuinely multicultural.

This is more than a Sunday music position. We are looking for someone who can lead people, develop musicians and build community.

You don’t have to be a professional musician. But you do need to be a capable musician, a growing disciple of Jesus and someone who understands that worship is about far more than what happens on a stage.

Primary Responsibilities

We have a young team that we need to develop and empower.

Lead Sunday Worship
  • Lead Ember’s worship gathering musically and spiritually.
  • Prepare and lead a worship set that fits the theme and direction of the weekly gathering.
  • Lead vocals and/or guitar, keyboard or another primary instrument.
  • Work with the pastor and teaching team to connect worship with the overall message and spiritual direction of the service.
  • Help create an environment where people participate rather than simply watch.
Build and Develop the Worship Team
  • Recruit, encourage and develop worship team members.
  • Schedule musicians and vocalists.
  • Rehearse the team and help musicians grow in confidence and ability.
  • Identify and develop emerging musicians, including younger people.
  • Create a team culture marked by humility, encouragement, preparation and joy.
  • Help develop multiple people who can lead rather than becoming the person everything depends upon.
Lead a Multicultural Worship Culture

Ember is intentionally multicultural, and we want that to be reflected in our worship.

The Worship Leader should:
  • Value worship traditions and expressions from different cultures and generations.
  • Be comfortable incorporating a variety of musical styles into worship.
  • Help our congregation experience the beauty of worshiping Jesus together across cultural and generational lines.
  • Avoid treating one cultural expression of Christianity as the “normal” or superior one.
  • Help create a worship environment where people from different backgrounds genuinely feel that they belong.
What We’re Looking For Character comes first. We are looking for someone who:
  • Has a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus.
  • Understands worship as a way of life, not simply a musical activity.
  • Is humble, teachable and emotionally healthy.
  • Loves people.
  • Can work well with people who don’t look, think or worship exactly like they do.
  • Is comfortable leading without needing to be the center of attention.
  • Can receive feedback and work collaboratively.
  • Is dependable and prepared.
  • Has a heart for people who may be new to church or unsure about Christianity.
Musical abilities The ideal candidate will:
  • Be a strong vocalist and/or instrumentalist.
  • Be able to arrange and adapt songs for a small worship team.
  • Have enough musical understanding to lead rehearsals effectively.
  • Be able to work with musicians of different experience levels.
  • Be comfortable using basic worship technology and presentation software.

Professional‑level musicianship is not required. Spiritual maturity, relational ability and the capacity to develop others matter just as much.

Time Commitment

This is a part‑time position, approximately 10–15 hours per week, with flexibility around the candidate’s schedule.

Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Weekly worship preparation
  • Sunday morning leadership
  • Worship‑team rehearsal
  • Team communication and scheduling
  • Occasional planning and development meetings
  • Developing new musicians and worship leaders
Compensation:
Depends on experience and availability.
