Location: Columbia

The Director of Youth Ministries leads and oversees all Youth Programs with a purpose to introduce young people to Christ, to disciple them in spiritual growth, and to train them in serving Christ with their life. The director works with ministry leaders and parents to assist our students, 6th to 12th grades, in developing and maturing in a real and personal relationship with Christ.

Supervision :

The Director of Youth Ministries is under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor and is responsible to the Session.

RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL
  • Engage the lives of students by investing in their spaces.
  • Oversee and lead the church’s program to disciple youth to maturity
PROGRAM OVERSIGHT

Oversight of Youth Events

  • Plan, organize, and lead youth events such as weekly youth group meeting and student outings
  • Develop and maintain a balanced program of spiritual, physical, and social growth
  • Identify, train, develop, and encourage volunteers to invest in the lives of students
  • Organize and work in partnership with youth leadership team consisting of parents and volunteers
  • Recruit and lead college aged students in investing in the lives of youth
DISCIPLESHIP Relationship Building
  • Develop authentic relationships with students by investing in their spaces and interests

(i.e. routine and regular home visits, attendance at various school events, social outings, etc.)

Teaching and Discipleship
  • Provide Biblical, relevant teaching for youth during youth group and church-wide studies
  • Coordinate small group discipleship for all Middle & High School age groups and genders
  • Personally disciple youth members in small group settings
  • Equip and/or connect students to serve in various ministries in the church
  • Schedule youth to participate in Youth 101 (Communicant’s Class)
  • Participate in church discipline involving youth
Partnership with Families
  • Facilitate open communication with parents/guardians
  • Initiate connection and partnership with parents
  • Equip parents to identify opportunities to disciple their students; assist as needed
  • Provide families with resources in dealing with relevant topics affecting students’ lives
ADMINISTRATION Retreats
  • Lead, organize, and participate in church sponsored youth retreats and conferences (i.e. fall and spring retreats at Bonclarken, Horizon, Quest, etc.)
  • Coordinate and lead service opportunities for youth in the local area and/or in missions
Other Administrative Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and supports church policies on security and safety of minors in the church
  • Assure proper care of facilities used by student programs
  • Maintain a well-planned program throughout the year in coordination with the church calendar of events
  • Plan, manage, and provide oversight for fundraising events within youth ministries
  • Participate in worship services with updates/announcements pertaining to youth ministries
  • Maintain liaison partnerships between the church and community organizations (i.e. schools, Young Life, sister churches, etc.) in relation to youth ministries
ACCOUNTABILITY FACTORS
  • Attend weekly meeting with staff for prayer and planning
  • Provide ministry updates to Session quarterly
  • Abide by standards and expectations outlined in Crossings Workplace Policies
  • Review and discuss job performance as part of tri-annual review process.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a born‑again Christian with a maturing relationship with Christ
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students
  • Be able to develop and sustain a good rapport with students
  • Possess interpersonal and communications skills to counsel and guide students
  • Possess an understanding of the challenges, with potential solutions, that today’s students experience
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Possess strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Must be able to educate and mentor student workers and volunteers
  • Possess in‑depth biblical knowledge and understanding of Reformed theology
  • Must subscribe to the constitution of the church and become a member of the church as soon as practical
  • Must be able to develop a budget in line with church goals and objectives
