Job SummaryAssume responsibility for the administration of the band program at the assigned high school by providing a quality music education program for students.
Essential Duties- Provide instruction to band students in a variety of performance opportunities (concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, pep band, solo, and small ensembles) and effective performance practices; develop daily lesson plans based on the South Carolina Standards for Instrumental Music Education and district guidelines; ensure grading, classroom management, and a positive learning environment.
- Organize performances: minimum two local public concerts per school year, on‑campus events, ceremonial music, and select off‑campus experiences such as band auditions, festivals, tours, and competitions.
- Maintain accurate records (instrument inventory, correspondence, enrollment, attendance, grades, financials, and other necessary records).
- Develop rehearsal schedules, coordinate with middle and high‑school orchestras and band directors for joint events, and ensure efficient use of student time.
- Communicate with school and district administrators regarding band activities, seek guidance/permission, and attend district meetings.
- Distribute an annual schedule of band events, maintain band facilities, and inform parents, public, and media about activities and accomplishments.
- Serve as liaison to the band booster club.
- Complete all required reports, surveys, and paperwork on time; support the instrumental music instructional team.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the principal.
- Valid teaching certificate in Instrumental Music.
- Minimum of 3 years of band‑director experience preferred.
- Demonstrated computer and technology skills.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered by the Administration or Board.
Requires regular standing, reaching, walking, sitting, stooping or kneeling, crouching or crawling. Must hear, understand, and speak clearly. May involve risk from attending to students’ physical or hygiene needs.
Work EnvironmentPerformed primarily in a school/classroom, with occasional travel to community settings or study trips. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for disabled employees.

Additional InformationPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on Evaluation of Teaching Personnel.
