JOB TITLE

Elementary Special Education Resource Teacher (Direct & Indirect Services)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The elementary special education resource teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades K–5 through a combination of direct instruction, push-in services, consultation, and indirect support within general education settings. The teacher ensures implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supports access to grade-level standards, and collaborates with school staff and families to improve academic, behavioral, and functional outcomes for students with disabilities.

Reports to the principal and works under the guidance of special education administration.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instruction & Service Delivery
  • Provides direct specialized instruction in small‑group or individual settings aligned to IEP goals and state standards.
  • Provides indirect services including consultation, progress monitoring, and support to general education staff.
  • Differentiates instruction and materials to meet student needs.
  • Teaches academic, behavioral, and executive functioning skills.
  • Implements accommodations and modifications.
  • Supports students' access to grade‑level curriculum.
  • Uses evidence‑based instructional practices.
Indirect/Consultation Services
  • Consults with general education teachers regarding accommodations and instructional strategies.
  • Supports implementation of IEP accommodations in classrooms.
  • Assists with progress monitoring and data collection.
  • Participates in MTSS/problem‑solving teams.
  • Supports behavior plans and interventions.
IEP Implementation & Compliance
  • Implements IEPs and service minutes as written.
  • Serves as case manager for assigned students.
  • Collects and maintains data on IEP goals.
  • Writes progress reports and contributes to IEP development.
  • Schedules and facilitates IEP meetings.
  • Participates in evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to plan instruction.
  • Communicates regularly with families.
  • Coordinates with related service providers.
  • Participates in PLCs and data meetings.
Classroom & Student Support
  • Maintains structured learning environment.
  • Implements behavior supports and positive interventions.
  • Supports independence and self‑advocacy skills.
  • Supervises students appropriately.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Attends required meetings and professional development.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports.
  • Follows IDEA, FERPA, and district policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
CASE MANAGER DUTIES
  • Serves as case manager for assigned students with disabilities.
  • Schedules and facilitates IEP meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with timelines and documentation.
  • Monitors progress toward IEP goals.
  • Coordinates services and supports.
  • Maintains communication with families.
  • Ensures accommodations are implemented across settings.
  • Maintains records for audits and monitoring.
CASELOAD EXPECTATIONS
  • Caseload is assigned by administration based on student needs, service minutes, and program demands.
  • Teacher is responsible for:
    • IEP compliance for assigned students
    • Progress monitoring
    • Documentation
    • Collaboration with staff and families

Caseload size may vary based on service intensity and student needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Valid South Carolina teaching certificate in Special Education.
  • Highly qualified status as required.
PHYSICAL & PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements

Requires standing, walking, and moving about the classroom. May involve lifting up to 25 pounds, assisting students with mobility, and supervising students in multiple settings.

Data & Cognitive Requirements

Requires ability to analyze student data, develop instructional plans, and maintain accurate records.

Communication Requirements

Requires effective oral and written communication with staff, students, and families.
