About University of South Carolina:From the Upstate to the Low country, the University of South Carolina system is transforming the lives of South Carolinians through the impact of our eight institutions and 20 locations throughout the state. More than 50,000 students are enrolled at one of eight institutions, including the research campus in Columbia and comprehensive four-year universities in Aiken, Upstate and Beaufort. In addition, our Palmetto College campuses in Salkehatchie, Union, Lancaster and Sumter enable students to earn associate or bachelor’s degrees through a combination of in-person, online or blended learning.
All of our system institutions place strong emphasis on service — helping to build healthier, more educated communities in South Carolina and beyond.
USC is developing a unique hospital that will house the Palmetto State’s first standalone comprehensive medical facility dedicated entirely to integrated care of patients with brain and nervous system illnesses. The center will be co-located with the new USC Health Sciences Campus. Therefore, successful candidates are expected to not only develop a cutting-edge, externally funded research program that integrates with existing brain health research at USC, but also build strong collaborations with clinicians and researchers at this newly established USC clinical neurological care and rehabilitation center.
Additional responsibilities for this position include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the department, and providing service to the University, profession, and community.
- These two positions require a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, chemical biology, chemistry, or a related discipline plus a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience by the start date of employment.
- Possible research areas could include molecular mechanisms of stroke and ischemia injury, neurobiology, neurochemistry, neurodegenerative diseases, or neuro-oncology.
- Research programs may also apply genomic, proteomic, and transcriptomic techniques to understand brain health at the molecular level.
