General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, supervises, plans and directs day‑to‑day operation of the in‑school suspension program, providing an alternative to home suspension. Motivates and assists students in resolving problems which threaten effective school performance. Reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal as assigned.
Essential Functions- Manages daily operations of the in‑school suspension program; supervises and manages suspended students' activities for the school day; chooses appropriate instructional assignments for students and gives assistance as needed. Collects assigned work and returns to teachers.
- Works with guidance counselors, teachers and other professional staff to help motivate students to resolve problems which threaten effective school performance. Devises special methods of motivation.
- Intervenes with students in crisis to manage behavior problems and to facilitate student academic and social progress; diffuses confrontations between students and others as necessary.
- May schedule and participate in parent conferences.
- Maintains knowledge of and interacts with various community programs and services that could provide guidance and redirection for troubled students.
- Maintains accurate attendance records and other records and reports as required.
- May organize and manage Substitute Center, acting as a substitute teacher when necessary and implementing assignments provided by teachers.
- May supervise after‑school detention as required.
- May maintain records of referrals and provide monthly reports to teachers and to the District.
- Monitors student behavior in absence of other supervision.
- Monitors the halls after the bell to make sure students are in their correct location.
- Calls parents if referrals are not returned by students, if student's behavior is interfering with academics.
- Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives.
- May maintain and update volunteer applications and organize volunteer events.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, human services or related field supplemented by two years of experience in an educational setting working with adolescents, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including... Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds.
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal CommunicationsRequires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to students and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.
Language AbilityRequires a ability to read a variety of student text books, policies and procedures, student records, etc. Requires the ability to prepare routine records and reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.
IntelligenceRequires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
