Job Description

TITLE: Reading Interventionist

REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Curriculum and Instruction

SUPERVISES: N/A

Calhoun County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Reading Interventionist to join our team and provide targeted support to our students. As a Reading Interventionist, you will work closely with individual students or small groups, implementing evidence-based strategies and interventions to help them improve their reading skills and achieve academic success.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate students' reading abilities to identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement using data.
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies and interventions to teach and reinforce foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Provide explicit and systematic instruction in reading, utilizing a variety of instructional materials and resources.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust intervention strategies as needed.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to support the academic growth of struggling readers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and intervention activities.
  • Stay abreast of current research and best practices in reading instruction and intervention.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education. Teaching certification or licensure in early childhood, elementary, or middle school education.
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development and reading instruction strategies.
  • Familiarity with a range of assessment tools and data analysis to inform instructional decisions.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and tailor interventions to meet individual student needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to effectively track student progress and maintain records.
  • Continuous professional development and a commitment to staying updated on current research and best practices in reading intervention.
