- Assist with the supervision of students during school hours
- Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
- Administer and record progress monitoring data for individual students regarding a variety of academic and functional skills
- Work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by a teacher
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material and/or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students including their needs, interests, and abilities
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes/student needs
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Distribute and collect supplies and materials used for instruction, homework, other papers, etc.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work designed and assigned by the teacher
- Assist the teacher and students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch, field day, career day, field trips, etc.
- Keep bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up-to-date under the direction of the teacher
- Assist with large group activities/lessons and uses proximity control strategies to monitor student focus, attention, and behavior during these activities/lessons
- Read to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of communication with students, including assisting the teacher with the instruction and implementation of communication systems
- Assist with the implementation of positive behavior supports, behavior strategies, etc. as designed and assigned by the teacher
- Assist students in the media center, PE, related arts, lunch, recess, hallways, etc.
- Check notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher
- Check and record student attendance
- Collect and record collection of money
- Help students with their clothing
- Physically assist students with daily living tasks such as eating, using the restroom and other toileting actions (such as changing diapers or pull‑ups), personal hygiene tasks, riding the bus, and moving within and around the school building
- Perform regular class level and student level duties that regularly involve stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or lifting
- Assist with lunch, snack, and clean‑up routines
- Assist with restroom and wash‑up routines
- Alert the classroom teacher to any problem or special information regarding an individual student
- Serves at the chief source of information to help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information regarding students and their families as is expected of fully licensed teachers
- Participates in in‑service training programs as assigned

Education and/or
Experience:
Sixty semester hours of postsecondary work; or an associate's degree; or successful completion of Paraprofessional test
Language
Skills:
Ability to read educational procedures, manuals, documents, and governmental regulations – ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence – ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to students or other employees of the organization
Math
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals – ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
