Term of Employment: 190 days

Job Summary:

To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning Media Center/Library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • General knowledge of secretarial duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to work with students, teachers, and the general public in a courteous manner
  • Proficient use of computers and other office applications (Microsoft / Google / Email)
  • Additional qualifications may be considered by district administration as appropriate and acceptable
Essential Duties
  • Type and process orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, catalog cards, and the like (both physical and electronic)
  • Order and receive books selected for purchase by the media specialist/librarian
  • Maintain files of catalog cards, vertical file material, publishers’ catalogs, and the like (both physical and electronic)
  • Write daily notices to homeroom teachers concerning overdue books/materials and collect fines for such books/materials
  • Make simple repairs on damaged books and process more severely damaged books for repair at the bindery
  • Ready books/materials for reserve per teachers’ requests and maintain the reserve shelf
  • Prepare current magazines for shelving and maintain the back‑number stacks
  • Assist in the annual inventory of library materials and prepare lists of missing books and books to be discarded
  • Shelf incoming books
  • Maintain the current inventory of supplies and suggest items for acquisition as needed
  • Oversee the general neatness and attractiveness of the Media Center/Library and its displays
  • Help students locate reference materials and other instructional materials
  • Read to small groups of students (in elementary school libraries only)
  • Assist the media specialist in maintaining proper student discipline
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
