OverviewSUMMARY: Responsible for planning instruction and/or adapting the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
- Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
- Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observations.
- Monitors student progress in and outside of the special education classroom.
- Maintains the physical environment of the classroom.
- Determines goals, objectives, and directions based on student progress.
- Prepares report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students.
QualificationsEducation and Experience: Bachelor's degree in education.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Teaching certificate with ED special education endorsement.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
The employee is frequently walking and standing, may bend or twist at the neck and back, and may lift significant weights up to and exceeding 25 lbs (e.g., students, wheelchairs, equipment).
Work EnvironmentThe noise level is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff and is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
