Job Title: Community Member Tutor
Hourly Rate: $25-$35/hr
Location: Ridgeland and Hardeeville Campuses
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARYProvides instructional support to students in individual or small group settings to reinforce classroom learning. Assists students in developing academic skills, study habits, and confidence to meet grade-level standards. Works under the direction of a teacher, site coordinator, or designated supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides academic support and reinforcement in designated subject areas.
- Assists students in completing assignments, projects, and practice activities.
- Monitors student progress and provides feedback to teachers and supervisors.
- Reinforces classroom instruction by reviewing lessons and concepts with students.
- Encourages positive study habits, responsibility, and independent learning skills.
- Supports students in preparing for tests, quizzes, and other assessments.
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance, participation, and progress.
- Promotes a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
- Communicates effectively with students, teachers, and parents as appropriate.
- Participates in training, staff meetings, and professional development as required.
- Adheres to school district policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as designated by the supervisor.
- Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Education and Experience: An Associate’s Degree or higher required. Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is strongly preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of instructional strategies and academic support methods. Familiarity with grade-level subject matter. Knowledge of school district policies and procedures related to tutoring and student support.
Skills/Effort: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds; patience and ability to motivate learners; organizational skills to maintain records and schedules. Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and colleagues.
Working Conditions: Work is conducted in classrooms, libraries, or designated tutoring areas. Physical demands are limited to light lifting of instructional materials (up to 25 pounds). Regular interaction with students requires patience and attentiveness.
