Position Type: Full-Time
Qualifications- South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area
- Degree(s) required and area of major study from an accredited college/university
- Prior job experience preferred
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
- Develop lesson plans and organize daily classes so that demonstrations, instruction, and practice can be developed within the allotted time
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved in the learning activities
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
- Diagnose the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as needed
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulations
- Instruct pupils in the use, care, and safe operation of equipment, making minor adjustments and requesting repairs as required
- Serve as a role model for students
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities
- Communicate with parents and school counselors about pupil progress
- Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned work day
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate
- Conferr frequent discussions with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students
- Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student
- Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students
- Counsel individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational, and personal problems
- Assist students in making realistic assessments of their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
- Generate an Individual Education Plan at the end of each school year for the coming school year
- Attend IEP meetings as deemed necessary and prepare behavioral intervention plans for specified students
- Supervisor may assign related duties as needed
Must exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 40 pounds.
