Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Pre-K Disability Teacher (LD, ED SPED, EC, and/or Multi-Cat Certified)

FLSA: Exempt

Terms of Employment: 190 Days

Position Type: Full-Time

Qualifications
  • South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area
  • Degree(s) required and area of major study from an accredited college/university
  • Prior job experience preferred
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Develop lesson plans and organize daily classes so that demonstrations, instruction, and practice can be developed within the allotted time
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved in the learning activities
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Diagnose the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as needed
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulations
  • Instruct pupils in the use, care, and safe operation of equipment, making minor adjustments and requesting repairs as required
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors about pupil progress
  • Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned work day
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate
  • Conferr frequent discussions with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students
  • Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student
  • Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students
  • Counsel individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational, and personal problems
  • Assist students in making realistic assessments of their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
  • Generate an Individual Education Plan at the end of each school year for the coming school year
  • Attend IEP meetings as deemed necessary and prepare behavioral intervention plans for specified students
  • Supervisor may assign related duties as needed
Physical Requirements

Must exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 40 pounds.
