Job Summary
The Department of English invites applications for its vacant Carolina Core Programs Coordinator position. This full‑time role provides administrative support for the Carolina Core (general education) programs housed in the English Department. Responsibilities include coordinating scheduling, staffing and data management for First‑Year English (FYE) and the Speech Communication & Social Advocacy and Ethical Life (SPCH & SAEL) programs, acting as the primary program contact, and offering other programmatic assistance as needed.
Related Minimum Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two or more years of job‑related experience (or an equivalent combination of certifications, training, education and experience).
Preferred Qualifications• Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services, Education or a related field with two years of related experience.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Teams, Zoom and Adobe software.
• Experience with Excel spreadsheets, Blackboard and USC systems (Banner, SSC, Data Warehouse, etc.) is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with USC policies, procedures and offices; ability to maintain privacy and ensure accuracy of work.
• Independent, adaptable, and capable of working effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
- FYE Scheduling – Collaborate each semester with the Director of FYE to schedule class times, classrooms and teaching assignments for ~100 instructors. Communicate with the Registrar and other university offices as needed. (20%)
- FYE Daily Administration – Support the FYE Director and Associate Director in program administration, act as primary contact for students and faculty, handle inquiries via phone, email, and walk‑ins, and assist with orientation, teaching awards and other initiatives. (25%)
- FYE Data Management – Aggregate, update and archive program data; maintain database of instructor contact information, course loads, and teaching assignments. (15%)
- SPCH & SAEL Scheduling – Coordinate class times, classrooms, and teaching assignments for ~30 instructors. Communicate with the Registrar and other relevant university offices. (10%)
- SPCH & SAEL Support – Serve as the primary program contact for SPCH & SAEL students and faculty, handle inquiries, provide resources, and assist the Directors with orientation and other initiatives. (10%)
- SPCH & SAEL Data Management – Aggregate, update and archive program data; maintain database of instructor contact information. (10%)
- Additional Duties – Perform other duties that support the success of First‑Year English and the Department of English as assigned. (5%)
