Associate Director of Career & Professional Development
As Associate Director of Career & Professional Development at the University of South Carolina School of Law, you will advise students and alumni on career planning, develop career programs, and collaborate with faculty, employers, and alumni to expand employment opportunities.
Responsibilities- Student Advising:
Provide career counseling to current students and alumni, including guidance with job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and employer matching. - Educational Content Development & Delivery:
Design, plan, and deliver educational programming and events such as the Law School Summer Program and networking opportunities. - Employer Relations & Outreach:
Support the office’s employer relations strategy by cultivating contacts with legal employers, representing the School of Law at bar meetings, conferences, and professional development activities. - Government & Public Interest Programs:
Lead efforts to promote and engage government and public interest employers, developing programs and materials to educate students on recruitment and career paths. - Online Resources and Communications:
In collaboration with the Communications Team, create online resources to assist students with job search skills and career planning. - Additional Duties:
Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 4 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience).
- Preferred: Juris Doctor with at least 3 years of practice experience, or another degree with at least 7 years experience in law school career services or legal recruitment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build trusted relationships, and maintain professional demeanor.
- Knowledge of traditional and non‑traditional legal employment opportunities, NALP principles, and hiring practices across legal employment settings.
- Excellent planning and organizational abilities, proficient in employer/student software platforms, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Sound judgment, problem‑solving skills, and strategic thinking to achieve employment goals.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for enhancing student services and optimizing legal employment outcomes.
- Student‑centered approach with responsiveness to evolving student needs.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build trusted relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to maintain and expand knowledge across a broad range of legal practice areas.
- Strong planning and organizational skills to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Exhibition of sound judgment and problem‑solving abilities.
