Job SummaryEpworth Children’s Home is seeking compassionate individuals to provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in English and math to middle and high school students as well as to oversee the after-school study hall sessions provided to residents. Tutors will employ effective instructional methods to enhance students' academic potential and support their public‑school education, fostering a conducive learning environment. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, ensuring a respectful and confidential relationship with students.
Epworth Children’s Home. This tutoring position, in collaboration with Epworth and Richland School District One, requires a commitment of 5‑10 hours per week, Monday‑Thursday, from 3:30 to 6:00 pm, starting in August 2026 and continuing through May 2027. The schedule aligns with the Richland One school calendar, and workdays are contingent upon school days. Qualifications- Teaching certification is not required, but teaching or tutoring experience is essential. Pay scale is determined by Richland School District One.
- Extensive experience working with children and adolescents (e.g., teacher, group residential counselor, church/youth involvement, camp counselor, etc.).
- Proficiency in providing instruction through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice.
- A passion for student learning, with the ability to help them comprehend challenging skills and concepts.
- Proficiency in evaluating and documenting student progress, maintaining records, and developing weekly lesson plans.
- Ability to supervise and maintain order in various classrooms and instructional settings.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students and staff.
- Capacity for self-management and multitasking in independent or group settings.
- Demonstrated discretion and judgment in decision‑making.
- Has a belief system and engages in faith practices that are compatible with those of the United Methodist Church.
- Successful completion of standard background checks, including drug screening, employment physical, SLED, DSS Central Registry, and Sex Offenders Registry.
