School Overview
Ashley River Classical Academy (ARCA) is hiring its founding faculty to teach its students when it opens in August in 2025. ARCA is a tuition-free, public, classical charter school. It is part of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. ARCA will initially open K-5 and grow to K‑12 by adding one grade level each year.
ARCA is now accepting applications from new and experienced educators for all K-5 positions.
Each faculty member is a professional who is esteemed and supported by a faculty of colleagues striving for excellence. The faculty is entrusted with practical implementation of the mission of ARCA:
To train the minds and develop character in students through a content‑rich Classical Education in the liberal arts and sciences utilizing instruction in the principles of moral practices and civic virtue.
The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction is a member of the school leadership team who works closely with the Head of School to coach and mentor teachers, maintain consistency in outstanding instruction across classrooms, and ensure the academic success of all students.
RequirementsPrimary duties and responsibilities include:
- Organizing and ordering curriculum materials as needed
- Working closely with teachers, parents, and students to ensure student academic success
- Providing guidance and coaching to teachers on aspects of curriculum and instruction
- Assisting in the recruitment and selection of faculty members
- Developing class schedules to ensure adequate instructional and remedial minutes
- Managing state and local testing requirements
- Planning and delivering high-quality professional development opportunities for faculty
- Consistently demonstrating the school’s Virtues:
Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Courage, Responsibility, Compassion, and Perseverance - Assisting the Head of School with other responsibilities as needed
- Bachelor’s or above in any subject area;
Master’s or Ph.D. preferred - Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, literacy, mathematics, and content‑area instruction
- Significant teaching experience; experience with classical education is preferred
- Leadership:
The ability to inspire others through both word and example - High moral character
- Thoughtfulness and a love of learning
