The faculty of the School of Visual Art and Design at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track, open rank position beginning August 16 2026.

Teaching Load
:
Four courses (2/2) per academic year.
- Develop and deliver courses for the BFA concentration in Graphic Design and Illustration, and continue to develop and deliver courses for the newly launched Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design.
- Expand the dynamic design culture within the school and university, implement and continue to develop the new curriculum.
- Collaborate with school, college, and university staff on facilities expansion as the BSID and BFA degree programs grow.
- Conduct interdisciplinary research across the School of Visual Art and Design, the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences, and the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing, focusing on emerging technologies such as human‑computer interaction, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational design methods, and interactive systems.
Education and Experience
- MFA (Master of Fine Arts), MID (Master of Industrial Design), MDes (Master of Design), MS (Master of Science), or PhD in a related field by the start date of the appointment.
- Experience in industrial design and expertise in experience design and/or human‑centered design.
- Proven ability to advance interdisciplinary research that bridges industrial engineering and design education.
- Experience leading the development of a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design program tailored to regional manufacturing needs.
- Strong commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments.
