Job Description

POSITION

PURPOSE:

To create and maintain a positive, stimulating environment for students to promote a culture of learning. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Prepare, administer and evaluate tests and classroom assignments. Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic difficulties, or special academic interests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Teach concepts and skills in work safety practices
  • Teach concepts and skills in barbering professional practice skills for hair
  • Teach concepts and skills in barbering professional practice skills for skin and nails
  • Teach concepts and skills in barbering professional practice skills for salon management
  • Prepare students for the South Carolina LLR licensure requirement assessment for cosmetology
  • Develops students' practical problem‑solving skills related to the materials and processes of the industry
  • Instruct students in the rudiments of getting and retaining a job; stays informed of current entry job requirements
  • Prepare lesson plans for daily classroom activities. Organize classroom and laboratory area for daily instruction
  • Lecture, demonstrate and use audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class
  • Select and request instructional aids, equipment, and supplies. Maintain inventory of supplies and materials needed for classroom activities. Provide for safe storage and proper use of materials, chemicals and other related supplies
  • Prepare, administer and correct tests and assignments and/or other assessments
  • Maintain order in the classroom and supervise student activities
  • Maintain grade and attendance records as required by the school district
  • Counsel students in adjustment and academic problems and provide feedback to students
  • Meet with parents and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issue reports to inform parents of students' progress
  • Evaluate progress and competency of students in concepts and skills of subjects taught and contribution to group projects
  • Prepare various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, tests, work orders, material requisitions, accident reports, competency forms, discipline reports, etc.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  • Interact with students, parents, coworkers, administrators, general public, etc.
  • Maintain good rapport with business, industry, and the public sector.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Must hold a South Carolina Barbering License, South Carolina Barbering Instructors Certification/Endorsement.
  • Must be able to work occasional instructional time during evenings and weekends.
EXPERIENCE
  • Must have 4 years hands‑on work experience as a licensed barber; teaching experience preferred.
